I've been watching some different Hoodoo articles, posts, etc. I consider it continuing education. I don't think folks are really understanding how this works. I have godchildren in Palo who also don't get it. But spirituality is not a tool in a box that you only pull out when you need it. It is something that we do daily. If you just use this for quick fixes, your results won't be consistent. If you have a friend who only reaches out when they need/want something, you will eventually stop taking their calls. And remember no on, not even spirits, works for free.
Wake up and thank a spirit for life and strength. My mom would ask daily, "Are you awake and in the land of living? we would answer yes. Then she would say, "Then thank the Lord!" she didn't necessarily mean the Christian god. Thank whomever you serve. Because as we say in our community, you could've woke up dead.
Spiritually bathing is a thing. I keep several spiritual cleaners that I put in my body wash for whatever I need it for. If I'm doing a ritual, I use the bath for purity. My money funny... a bath for prosperity. Haters trying me or I have to walk through the valley of the shadow of death... protection bath. Do I need to impress folks.... charisma bath. Did I wake up on the wrong side of the bed... peace bath. And you know what? doesn't take any longer than it would if I didn't do it. I have things pre-made.
I dress employing colors based on what I have going on that day. For example, I have a ritual this evening. I put on one of my working dresses. This may be shallow, but I pray for a parking space at my job, IYKYK. I keep altars in all my spaces. I say some prayers when I get to work. Can I do this at home? Yes, but it's easier for me at work. My people know me. When I leave, I thank them for the business. I pray a little for a safe ride home. Quick prayers. When I get home and wash my face off, I anoint me head with oil before I put my bonnet on. Y'all don't oil your scalps? I build with hubs say a grateful prayer and sleep.
When I clean my home, I use a spiritual floorwash. My home is low key haunted. The people (caucasion) who lived there before were practitioners of something. The spirits that remain have let me know they are there and still expect respect. I let them know that it our house, and in our house no one lives there for free. They want offerings, they have to earn them. We good. I wash my clothes with a spiritual additive to remove all attached spirits from them. My home is warded inside and out. Even my cars are appropriately warded. More on that later... Monthly, I do reversal work JIC.
None of this was hard and out of my way.
Every week I give offering to my shrines as a small thanks for how they hold me. On occasion I give them bigger offerings. It just depends. So when I go to them with an issue.... THE GOT ME! If you want your indigenous spirits to hold your hand... you have to treat them better.
